But what we did do, we did right. Our AS9100 certification requires us to look a the past years performance in the form of <strong>KPI<\/strong>&#8216;s (Key Performance Indicators) for all internal processes, and while I personally maintain high standards of quality around here, even I was impressed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On-time delivery: 100%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bad parts\/rejects: 0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I know our quality system requires us to commit to constant improvement, but it&#8217;s hard to improve on that&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we did well enough this year to be able to refresh our 5-axis machining department with a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haascnc.com\/machines\/vertical-mills\/universal-machine\/models\/umc-500.html\">Haas UMC-500<\/a> machining center, and it is a definite step up for us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>15,000 RPM, 40 Horsepower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coolant thru spindle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full probing and tool pre-setter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30 Tool capacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full 5 axis machining<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here you see it still partially wrapped:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stcind.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/20231228_101002-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3241\" style=\"width:314px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s being powered up and set up as I write this. Training starts next week and there&#8217;ll be substantial work to get to the point where we&#8217;re making good parts. At least they call it work. For me this is one of the reasons I love doing this stuff.
